Ridge Top Gardens

This project sits on an amazing ridge top site in the mountains between Santa Rosa and Calistoga that sadly burned in the 2017 fires.  A new house, detached garage, and guest house were built in roughly the same locations as before, preserving many of the rock-lined planting beds of the former gardens.  These meandering paths create a botanic garden feel and the new plantings work with this, creating several themed gardens, each with a uniquely beautiful combination of plant species.  In the backyard is a more modern feeling garden including an outdoor kitchen, dining area and swimming pool.  These elements combine together with a small lawn to create a wonderful outdoor living space that opens up to the amazing panoramic views.  There is no shortage of rock on the property, allowing for the use of different sized boulders to accent and unify the gardens and the restoration of a recirculating stream cascading down the hill.  The plants are still young and small in these pictures but will soon grow in to balance the rocky look with nice colorful vegetation that is both fire and deer resistant.
